There will be a demonstration this week, in favour of free speech

Such things are not particularly unusual, and previous generations (who lived through the years of the Lord Chancellor's pen and the Lady Chatterley trial) would not be astonished at all. In fact there was specifically one or two of them in Parliament Square not so long ago where people were arrested for protesting against the government ban on demonstrators there, which Nick didn't cover at all IIRC because it was organised by the anti-war crowd.

The far right are out of the picture, but apparently it is not really going to be a demonstration "in favour of free speech" at all; it's going to be all about solidarity with an anti-immigrant Danish newspaper, and having a go at the Muslims (sorry, the "brown far right", like the "hook-nosed far right" who as we know are the only people who wouldn't show up at a demonstration of solidarity with David Irving. For fuck's sake Nick, that remark is purely and simply racist).

So, if you care about free speech on Saturday, you have a bugger's bargain; stay at home and be called "against free speech", or stand shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of arseholes who are trying to resurrect a pretty nasty piece of sectarian conflict that looked like it had died down four weeks ago. I personally will be taking the course of action which keeps me closest to my kitchen. Bruschetta, I surmise, will not be served.

By the way, if you think that "free speech" includes the right to spend your money how you like (whether that involves having a flutter or donating to political parties), you can fuck off.

"brown far right"

So much for all the, "we are not racists as Muslims are not a race" nonsense we have had to put up with.

Surely this must rank as a seal of Dacre?

I see Alan Johnson & Jane Ashworth, of Democratiya/Labour Friends of Iraq have pulled out of the free expression demo becuase they did not like the Freedom Association being involved. Who will turn up ? Mostly UKIP people, I reckon, they are the only eally organised group involved

Not if the Freedom Association are involved.

Indeed. I just googled the Freedom Association, and found their site, which says, "Founded in 1975 by Viscount De L'Isle VC, KG, PC, GCMG, GCVO, Ross McWhirter & Norris McWhirter CBE."

You know, for a minute, I really thought VC, KG, PC, GCMG, and GCVO were anonymous bloggers.

Ooh, I've finally read the whole thing. (© Glenn Reynolds -- BTW his mugshot on "Comment is free" is scary.) Well, I agree with him on casinos (mostly; I'm dubious about the economic costs). Still, his comparisons to the US (where only NV and NJ allow gambling) seem a little forced.

Nor do I get his drug dealer example. (I'm no expert on money laundering; but given the odds in most horse races and casinos aren't as high as 100-1, why is 'I won it all' any kind of explanation? Winning a lot surely implies a large stake.) And of course, the drug dealer has to win. (Again, I'm ignorant of casinos, but surely you can't walk in with a wedge, place half on red, half on black, lose one half and double the other, and repeat until bored so you walk out with the same wedge?)

That last item is nonsense though. Shame.

Nope, 00 voids all about statistically 1/36 times

By the way, any AW readers who are thinking of laundering money in a supercasino, don't take your advice from Nick. Casinos are ultraparanoid about money-laundering these days (because you can serve 7 years for it) and will grass you up as soon as look at you. The only way to launder money in a casino on any reliable basis is to own one, which would obviously not be a supercasino.

(the very best vehicle for a launderer, btw, is a football club apparently)

See Glenn Reynolds comments on the rise of racism in Europe?
He cites a book called
"While Europe Slept: How Radical Islam is Destroying Europe from Within" as evidence of this rise of racism by the 'brown' far-right without first performing a mental experiment where the book is retitled "While Europe Slept: How Radical Jews are Destroying Europe from Within".

I've just recently been introduced to this site and I like its flavour and direction. I do believe that sarcasm (at its best) is the highest form of wit.
